Samantha Cox, MS, LAC Licensed Associate Counselor

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help people to work through difficult moments in their life. I feel so fortunate to be able to pursue that calling with AZ Pinnacle Counseling. I believe that everyone needs help sometimes, whether it be with struggles dealing with day-to-day stressors, handling a traumatic event, or working through relationship conflicts, everyone deserves a space to speak freely without fear of judgement. I strive to listen with an open mind and heart, and to provide empathetic support in vulnerable moments.

My Education

I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology at Arizona State University. I returned to the classroom 10 years later for my Master’s in Professional Counseling at Grand Canyon University. I have additional training in Emotional Focused Therapy and Prepare/Enrich to enhance my skills in couples, marriage and premarital counseling.

My Professional Journey

After graduating from ASU, I worked as a retail manager for several well-known brands.  While those positions allowed me the opportunity to help both customers and my employees, I found that corporate constraints and the needs of the business inhibited my ability to connect with people in a way that felt meaningful and fulfilling.  As employees came to me with struggles that impacted their ability to work, I found myself wanting to provide them a space to share and feel heard or validated.  Instead, my role in a corporate environment dictated a kind pat on the shoulder and a necessity to get back to work.  I knew our employees deserved more.  I also thought I had more to offer as a counselor than I could ever provide as their manager, so I returned to graduate school to pursue my dream of becoming a licensed professional counselor.

My focuses as a counselor include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual Counseling

  • Grief Counseling

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Issues related to infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum adjustment

  • Premarital Counseling

  • Couples Counseling

  • Divorce Recovery

I gain new experiences each day and I am thankful for clients who have allowed me to work with them as I support them on their therapeutic journeys.

In Addition to Therapy

I’m an Arizona native and am fortunate to have married my “High School Reunion Sweetheart.” We’ve been married for six years, and last year we welcomed our first child together which has kept our lives active and interesting. When we have the opportunity, we love to explore new cultures through travel, and look forward to showing our son the beauty to be found all over the world. At home, I show my love for the people in my life through cooking and entertaining. I’m an avid reader, and try to take opportunities to learn new skills or dabble in various creative pursuits.
