Is Your Child Having Trouble Expressing Their Emotions or Communicating Their Needs?

The Life of a Child

Children are resilient, adaptable, and incredible divergent thinkers. However, family, social, and environmental experiences can negatively impact a child and prevent them from reaching their potential growth. According to the CDC, children commonly struggle with ADHD, Autism, behavior problems, anxiety, and depression, and the rate of children being diagnosed has steadily increased since 2007. Several world events have had an impact on children’s mental health, especially the COVID pandemic, which has stunted the mental and emotional growth of children that were unable to attend school in-person and learn key developmental skills. Many children and preteens struggle with social and/or separation anxiety whilst transitioning into new school settings and social environments. However, children are adaptable and are open to learning new skills and behaviors that can help them better regulate and communicate their needs and emotions.

Child Therapy Can Help

One of the main modalities for child therapy that has been gaining research traction is play therapy and sand tray therapy. Young children and preteens communicate through play. In 2014, the National Library of Medicine found that children’s socioemotional, communication, and problem-solving skills improved through play therapy. Play therapy has especially been used for children experiencing symptoms of ADHD, Autism, and behavior problems.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a form of therapy in which the therapist meets each individual child at their own level. Trained counselors utilize toys, interventions, and activities to enable a child to communicate and express their feelings and needs through symbolic and linguistic expression. The space created in the therapeutic room allows children to process and explore their feelings through their imagination and innate creative thinking process. Our compassionate counselors help children to navigate challenging and complex situations including:
