Hannah Martinson, MC, LAC

Asking for help can be a very scary act to do. Asking for help from a stranger to therapeutically discuss your personal concerns can be even more of a daunting experience. While I understand that starting therapy can be a terrifying experience, I recognize how courageous it is and how much trust is earned throughout the therapeutic process. As your counselor, I will meet you where you are at, yet gently challenge you to work towards your goals. I believe we are in this process together, therefore I strive to foster an open, empathetic, authentic, and safe environment where you can foster change and feel supported by me.

My Education

I knew I wanted to become a counselor when I became interested in watching online psychology YouTube videos during my junior year of high school. I graduated from Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling and Applied Psychological Sciences. For my honor’s thesis, I created a children’s book that serves as a guide for children to learn, understand, and regulate their emotions. I continued my education at Arizona State University to earn my Master of Counseling degree.

My Professional Journey

My first job I ever had was working at a public pool as a lifeguard and swim instructor. I have been in customer service/helping positions ever since because I highly value service and making a positive impact in another’s life—inside the therapy room and outside of it! I first started seeing clients at ASU’s Counselor Training Center as part of my practicum experience, where I counseled college students and other individuals in the greater Phoenix area. I then completed my internship at ASU Counseling Services, where I continued to counsel students. While at ASU Counseling Services, I also co-facilitated a grief and loss therapy group and a relationships support group.

My specialties include, but are not limited to…

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Grief/loss

  • Couples

  • Premarital

  • Teens

  • Young adults

  • Adults

  • Academic concerns

  • Phase of life problems/transitions

  • Stress management

  • LGBTQIA+ affirming care

  • Poly affirming care

In Addition to Therapy

I am an Arizona native, and have loved exploring the beautiful state my whole life! I enjoy spending time in nature, swimming, trying new recipes, traveling when I can, and hanging out with friends and family. I also currently conduct research, and aim to expand the literature surrounding minorities that face stigma and marginalization, with a focus on consensually non-monogamous relationships.
